We met Saar Safra, the CEO of BEEWISE, on Wednesday afternoon. Saar Safra is a serial entrepreneur who has founded several innovative start-ups including Beewise, The Uprise, and ActiveBuilding. BEEWISE, which is headquartered in California, is a five-year-old company with 150 employees.
Beewise’s mission is to aid beekeepers in pollinating and producing honey by saving their bees. Utilizing modern technology, they provide the first scalable solution for beekeepers worldwide to protect their colonies. Bees play a crucial role in global food production, contributing to 70% of it, including items such as cotton for clothes and coffee for drinks. Unfortunately, due to climate change, 40% of bees are dying annually on a global scale. This alarming trend could lead to a future where the scarcity of food disrupts the global supply chain, resulting in exorbitant prices, such as a tomato costing $100 in a supermarket. The traditional beehives commonly used today, known as Langstroth boxes, were designed by humans approximately 150 years ago. We have become so accustomed to these hives that we often mistake them for the natural habitat of bees.
Beewise's groundbreaking product, called Beehome, offers an innovative solution by incorporating climate and humidity control, pest control, autonomous swarm prevention, automated harvesting, and real-time problem alerts. Through the redesign of the beehive, Beewise has created a safe, natural, and productive environment that allows bees to live in a healthier and more natural way. This redesign addresses many of the inefficiencies of commonly used hives, significantly improving the well-being and lifespan of bees, as well as enhancing yields and pollination.
Here's how Beehome works:
- The solar-powered Beehome is placed in the field and populated with bees.
- The robot within Beehome takes care of the bees in real-time, regardless of the weather conditions.
- Beekeepers can access vital data and manage the hives remotely, as if they were working on-site.
Beewise is an innovative company that has introduced AI technology into the traditional beekeeping industry. Saar Safra's message during his speech was "Don't be afraid of failure. Be the first person to try something new." We eagerly anticipate the growth of Beewise and the positive impact they will have on the world.
Thanks for sharing more about Beewise with us, Saar!
